The yarn in the pattern is discontinued, or it is ninety dollars a sweater's worth, or it is simply not sold anywhere you can reach. Substituting is not something knitters do occasionally. It is what most of us do most of the time.
The usual method is to read "DK weight", find another yarn labelled DK, and cast on. That works often enough to feel like a rule, and fails badly enough, often enough, to have cost most of us a whole sweater at some point.
This is the longer method — an order of checks that takes an extra evening at the front, and is the difference between a garment you wear and a garment you fold away.

We do our best to get all orders out as soon as possible. All in-stock orders will be shipped out within 30 business days. During normal times, all orders are processed within 3 to 5 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) after receiving your order confirmation email.
In the rare occurrence that inventory is out of stock, we’ll display the backorder status and expected ship date on the product page, and we’ll also include the expected “Ships By” date in your order confirmation email. Backordered items may extend the anticipated delivery timeframe, so please check these details if you’re purchasing a backordered product.
How do I check the status of my order?
When your order has shipped, you will receive an email notification from us which will include a tracking number you can use to check its status. Please allow 48 hours for the tracking information to become available.
If you haven’t received your order within 5 days of receiving your shipping confirmation email, please contact us at info@humidifiersforme.com with your name and order number, and we will look into it for you.

You have 30 days from the date you receive your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return:
The item must be unused, in its original condition, and in the original packaging
Proof of purchase (order number or receipt) is required
